World's Best Shoes, Showcased in Singapore

Top 3 Prizewinners from 2018 World Championships in Shoemaking are on display at Kevin Seah’s atelier until 4 July.
This April saw the announcement of the winners of the inaugural World Championships in Shoemaking, organised by top men’s footwear blogs Shoegazing and The Shoe Snob. The finest shoemakers at work today were invited to create a plain black, box calf, cap-toe Oxford shoe, with 30 talented contestants rising to the challenge.
A panel of experts judged the entries from German Patrick Frei (first prize), Daniel Wegan (a UK-based Swede, employed by Gaziano & Girling, who took second place), and France’s Philippe Atienza (third prize) to be the cream of the crop.
We are proud to announce that Frei, Wegan and Atienza’s exquisitely handcrafted, prize-winning shoes will be on display at the Kevin Seah Bespoke Atelier, 5 Jalan Kilang, Singapore, until the 4th of July.
Pay us a visit over the coming week to marvel at the artistry of these masterful shoes from three of the world’s greatest living practitioners of cordwaining.
Above and top: Patrick Frei's world champion shoe, beautifully photographed by Janik Gensheimer. Frei devoted some 160 hours to working on the shoe, plus 20 more crafting the shoe tree, which a violin-maker then spent another 20 hours embellishing with a scroll detail.

The three prize-winning shoes will subsequently travel to Leffot in Chicago and New York, having already been shown in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul and Beijing.
